GUIDELINES ON THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE COURSES


  • REGULAR COURSES (Reading and Writing)

    1.  Types of Courses

         ELEMENTARY 1 (68hrs)
         •    Study of basic grammatical patterns
         •    Simple conversation
         •    Writing Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji
         •    Kanji: around 50 characters/ Vocabulary: more than 400 words

         ELEMENTARY 2 (64hrs)
         •    Continuation of study of basic grammatical patterns
         •    Simple conversation
         •    Kanji: 143 characters/ Vocabulary: more than 700 words


         ELEMENTARY 3 (64hrs)
         •    Study of complex grammatical patterns
         •    Simple conversation
         •    Kanji: 258 characters/ Vocabulary: more than 1000 words

        * Completion of the course means eligibility of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N5)


         ELEMENTARY 4 (64hrs)
         •    Continuation of study of complex grammatical patterns
         •    More training in conversation
         •    Kanji: 358 characters/ Vocabulary: more than 1300 words

         INTERMEDIATE 1 (64hrs)
         •    Study of practical techniques in reading, writing and speaking Japanese
         •    Kanji: 580 characters/ Vocabulary: more than 1500 words

         * Completion of the course means eligibility of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N4)


         INTERMEDIATE 2 (64hrs)
         •    Study of practical techniques in reading, writing and speaking Japanese
         •    Kanji:  around  700 characters/ Vocabulary: around 1700 words

     

         INTERMEDIATE 3
         •    More training in reading of higher level Nihongo texts, etc.
         •    More training in writing (Sakubun writing, etc.)
         •    Kanji:  around  1000 characters/ Vocabulary: around 2000 words

     

        INTERMEDIATE 4

    • More training in reading of higher level Nihongo texts, etc.
    • More training in writing (Sakubun writing, etc.)
    • Kanji: around 1000 characters/ Vocabulary: around 2000 words

          * Completion of the course means eligibility of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N3)



    2.  Period / Hours per Week :
        -   Two  to Two and a half months /  6 to 9 hours per week
        -   Four months /  4 hours per week
        -   Five months / 3 hours per week

    3.  Examinations :

        -    Midterm and Final exams
        -    Evaluation Exam

    4.  Audio-visual teaching aids:
        -  Cassette tapes
        -  Compact Discs
        -  VHS tapes
        -  DVD s


  • NIHONGO KAIWA (Conversational Courses)

    1.  Types of Courses

         NIHONGO KAIWA 1 (24hrs)
         •    Conversational Japanese
         •    Romanized Japanese is used

         NIHONGO KAIWA 2 (24hrs)
         •    Conversational Japanese  (continuation of Nihongo Kaiwa 1)
         •    Romanized Japanese is still used
          
         ELEMENTARY KAIWA  (63 hrs)
         •    Aim: To hone the listening & conversational skills of the stu  dent.
         •    Recommended for those with knowledge of basic grammar
         •    Plain conversation , Vocabulary around 400 or more

         TOURISM and HOTEL NIHONGO (48hrs)
         •    Aim: To improve the Japanese language ability of those in the Tourism and Hotel industry in order to provide better service to Japanese travellers.
         •    Plain conversation for beginners
         •    Romanized Nihongo
         •    Vocabulary: around 500

    2.  Period / Hours per Week :
        -   One month / 6hrs per week  (N. Kaiwa)
        -   Two  months to Two and a half months / 3hrs per week (N.Kaiwa) /
            6hrs per week (T.H. Nihongo)
        -    Four to Five months / 3-4hrs per week (Elem. Kaiwa)

    3.  Examinations :
        -   No Examinations

    4.  Audio-visual teaching aids:
        -  Cassette tapes
        -  Compact Discs
        -  VHS tapes 


  • SPECIAL COURSES

    Types of Courses

    CHILDREN’S  NIHONGO  (30 - 34hrs)
    •    Designed for children’s ages 5 to 10 years old
    •    Basically a “Play and Learn” class
    •    Basic Vocabulary and Writing
    •    One month / 6 hours per week  or  3 months / 2 hours per week

    ELEMENTARY BUSINESS JAPANESE (68hrs)
    •    Simple conversation
    •    Study of basic grammatical patterns
    •    Writing Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji
    •    Vocabulary: around 400 words, Kanji: 50 , with Examinations
    •    Introduction to Japanese corporate culture
    •      - Two  to Two and a half (2.5) months /  6 to 9 hours per week
       -   Four (4) months /  4 hours per week
       -   Five (5) months / 3 hours per week

    NIHONGO for CAREGIVERS

    Module 1  
    •    Simple conversation
    •    Study of basic grammatical patterns
    •    Writing Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji
    •    Vocabulary: around 350 words, Kanji: 20
    •    Seven (7) weeks / 42 hours

    NIHONGO for CAREGIVERS
    Module 2  
    •    Simple conversation
    •    Continuation of the study of basic grammatical patterns
    •    Writing Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji
    •    Vocabulary: around 400 words, Kanji: 30
    •    Seven (7) weeks / 38 hours

    SURVIVAL JAPANESE 1 (48hrs)
    •    Aim: To prepare Filipinos for technical training in Japan
    •    Simple conversation
    •    Vocabulary: around 600
    •    Romanized Japanese is used
